Four years have changed you.
And so have I
Weathered along with your leather sides.
Continents traveled,
Sights unimaginable,
Are now part of your every step.
Humbly, you conceal your secrets:
The dust of the Negev,
The snow of the Rockies,
And the silt of Yellowstone
Wear and fill your cracks.
Time has disfigured you,
But stories will make you rich
In my eyes.
I wear high heels
When I need gaudy shoes
For gaudy occasions.
But I will love always
My hiking shoes:
The first points of contact
On a world that demands to be touched.
